Two people, a man with glasses and a woman with light-colored hair, are facing each other in conversation indoors.

Stories that shape how we lead and serve.

This is where you’ll get a deeper sense of what matters to me.

Writing, conversations, and lessons gathered along the way.

Why I Share Stories

Story has always been one of the most powerful ways we make sense of our work. In every room I’m invited into, stories emerge. Stories about leadership, community, and challenges.

Many of the stories that shape how I think also come from everyday life. From being a son, a father, and a grandfather. From paying attention to small moments that reveal what responsibility, presence, and accountability really look like.

I share these reflections not as answers, but as invitations. Invitations to pause, to notice what’s unfolding around us, and to consider how we want to show up for one another. Stories that spark meaningful conversations. Some come from the work I do with leaders and teams. Others come from moments of listening, learning, or being reminded of what matters most.

This space is a place for reflection, for slowing down and making meaning together.

What You’ll Find Here

You’ll find a collection of stories and reflections drawn from the work and the people I serve. Topics often include:

  • Reflections from leadership and culture work

  • Belonging and trust

  • Podcast interviews and recorded conversations

  • Guest writing and published pieces

Together, these stories offer a clear picture of how I think about leadership, service, and the responsibility we share for the communities we lead.

Listen Up

This is a collection of conversations and audio moments from the work. Interviews, shared reflections, and thoughtful dialogue with people who care deeply about leadership, culture, and service. Listen in when you have space to reflect, or when you’re looking for a different way into the work.

In this episode, Ken Futernick sits down with Mike Walsh—widely known across California education circles as a master human connector—to explore how schools can build trust, strengthen relationships, and create communities where both adults and students truly belong.

Drawing on decades of experience as a school board leader, facilitator, and student advocate, Walsh shares how meaningful change doesn’t begin with answers, but with better questions—and with the courage to step aside so others can connect with one another.

If something here resonates, I’d be glad to continue the conversation.
